Eeek! Yes, it’s worrying sometimes being self-employed and responsible for all the income being brought in. No security, having to trust, sometimes more money going out than coming in, and having to rely on other people to bail you out. Or perhaps you’re using your savings to bolster your income.

Maybe you’ve just started your small business or project, and, sensibly, you know that it will take some time to provide a decent income, not to mention your future, but you’re beginning to wonder when that will be.

You probably want to grow your business or project, to have it provide you with a good lifestyle while enabling you to provide the service you love. But you might not be able to see quite how to do it without working incredibly hard and selling your soul in the process – and although you’re willing to work hard, you’re absolutely not willing to sell your soul, because you know that just doesn’t work.

Sometimes you might even feel at your wits’ end, and fairly desperate, cut off from any source of inner wisdom, needing something to change, even fantasising about going out and getting a job, or wondering if you are completely mad, trying to do this.

And you know the service you provide is really good, because people keep telling you! But a lack of confidence from it not quite going how you want it to go, enabling you to do the work you love and serve others from the bottom of your heart, is beginning to really eat away at your vision. With all your efforts not translating into a really good, sustainable business, it’s easy to get demoralised and begin to lose heart.

You’ve probably been trying to improve your situation

and it’s likely you’ve tried the principles of the Law of Attraction, or affirmations — but something must be going wrong, because any change is so erratic – sometimes these things work, and sometimes they don’t. Which makes it really easy to feel like it’s ‘all your fault’. Or maybe you know all this intellectually, but experientially it’s another matter.

You might have been following a ‘guru’ who kept saying “just do as I did and you’ll get the same results”. But people can tell you this until they’re blue in the face and unless you happen to have the same mindset and background as they’ve had (impossible!), your journey is likely to be very different from theirs.

And as for money – well maybe you secretly know you’re not really charging enough, but you just haven’t quite been able to bring yourself to put up your prices, especially for clients and customers you’ve known for some time. And even if you are happy with your pricing, it’s still very challenging the whole money thing, especially keeping on top of your books.

When you find yourself desperately trying to run to catch up with yourself; or when it’s difficult to admit where you are; or when you are simply feeling demoralised that things aren’t working out the way you want them to, then you’re trying to jump to the top of the stairs in one go.

Why is jumping up to the top of the stairs in one go so attractive?

Well, there’s lots of reasons. It could be because you want to run away from your current situation; or you imagine that is where you will finally be able to let your heart shine out with all the love, passion and desire you have to make a difference to the world; or it just looks very inviting, a place where all seems to flow easily, problems get resolved smoothly (that’s if there are any!), and life will just be plain good.

The thing is, when you try to leap up in one go, (or even two or three), you miss out on the lesson each stair has for you.

You’ll have noticed this already, perhaps, because even if you have managed to leap up two or three steps, you probably have to go back down again in order to integrate the lessons from those steps you jumped over. So, yes, it’s very tempting to just want to jump up there in one go.

But it’s the process of going up the stairs that allows you to connect with your love, passion and light and have that shine through your business.

It’s the process of going up the stairs, steadily one by one, that allows you to learn what you need to know to be able to thrive at the next level. And it’s the process of going up the stairs that enables you to grow within, shine your light in it’s full glory, and fully inhabit the place you are meant to occupy in the world.

And when you do this, your business starts to really shine too.

Often there is some work to be done on money, what it means to you, how you are managing it practically, how your family history with money is impinging on your business, and what you can do about it to make your relationship with money one of love and ease as opposed to one which feels a challenge.

And I will always listen out for where you might be unknowingly limiting yourself, so that we can make sure you, as well as your business, are growing and expanding in the most nurturing way possible.

How do I know? Because this is how I have been running my own businesses ever since 1992 when I first started leading Louise Hay You Can Heal Your Life study groups around the UK and Europe.
