Choices and thoughts

Oh ye’ll take the high road and I’ll take the low road,
An’ I’ll be in Scotland before ye’,
But woe is my heart until we meet again
On the Bonnie, bonnie banks O’ Loch Lomond.

What am I doing, with a wee Scottish verse in this article?

Well, it’s the first line only that’s appropriate really; the whole
song is a traditional Scottish folk song from hundreds of years
ago.

But the first line came into my head the other day, and it
reminded me of choosing between thinking richly (taking
the high road) and thinking poorly (the low road).

Either way you may end up in the destination
you’re going to. But for sure if you take the [read more]

RichThinking in Action

I put up a YouTube video clip recently of me talking to camera about my new e-study manual How To Be a RichThinker: essential inner tools of success. (It’s not up, by the way, so you can’t view it!)

Why isn’t it up anymore? Because it wasn’t good enough. I’d hardly even been in front of a camera before, but the most amazing thing was that I hadn’t really prepared for it. Result: I learned a lot, but didn’t achieve what I thought was my aim, to have a clip up on YouTube.

So I set up a time to play around with a friend and his camera, setting my intention to just have fun. Again, though, I hadn’t really [read more]

Things getting in the way…

I haven’t written a blog for ages and there’s a reason. I’m supposed to be changing over from blogger.com to WordPress, and when I was showed WordPress, it seemed like just too much – yet another system I had to learn and find my way around. Result: no more blogging!

But this is the kind of thing that happens all the time. You get stopped in your tracks by something unexpected and then it’s hard to get going again.

So how do you get going?

By doing what I’m doing here. Telling the truth about what’s really going on; facing up to facts, and then being willing to take the first, sometimes tiny, step in the right direction.

Well, that’s a Rich Thought if ever there was one!

Why am I saying this? Because in times like this, people are often more willing to spend money on something that they perceive will give them something to relieve their stress, improve their health, or help them get to where they want to go.

Previously, they might have spent money on ‘stuff’; but now, as the ‘stuff’ doesn’t actually make them feel any better, other than temporarily, money gets spent on treatments, coaching sessions, health products. Anything that makes them feel better from the inside out, or helps them cope with life in a more effective way.

And that doesn’t even take into account all the people out there who [read more]

How I learnt about competition from Starbucks

I’m reading the story of Starbucks at the moment.

As you might have noticed, the chain has grown incredibly over the last few years, often opening up a shop just down the road from another ‘mom and pop’ coffee shop, or even next door.

“The cheek of it!” says my indignant British side.

But another side, the one that’s interested in people having their dreams come true, said “How did he do it?”

If you want to know how, then you can read the book; what’s relevant to this blog is the reaction of the mom and pop coffee shops to Starbucks ‘encroaching on their territory’. Because basically they had an opportunity to think poorly, or think richly.
