The thing about goals…

also posted in Inspirational Quotes

Someone forwarded this to me today. It’s from Seth Godin’s blog (he of marketing guru fame).

“Having goals is a pain in the neck.

If you don’t have a goal (a corporate goal, a market share goal, a personal career goal, an athletic goal…) then you can just do your best. You can take what comes. You can reprioritize on a regular basis. If you don’t have a goal, you never have to worry about missing it. If you don’t have a goal you don’t need nearly as many excuses, either.

Not having a goal lets you make a ruckus, or have more fun, or spend time doing what matters right now, which is, after all, the moment in which [read more]

Changing from poor thinking to rich

At last, I am feeling better, better enough to post here. I’ve been lost in the Land of the Black Hole, where there is no air, no space, no light. No perspective, no love, no connection with anyone or anything else. Along with all this goes fear.

So how did I get out of it? First, I had to acknowledge I was in it. That happened last night. Then, getting out of the hole. Over the years I’ve gathered around me a number of different methods to help me get out of these holes; last night (well, 4.00am to be precise), I threw the I Ching. This is what I was reflecting on, after his suggestion. I decided to experiment, and so yesterday morning saw me still in my dressing gown at [read more]

I was sorting through the pile of papers that sits to the left hand side of my computer earlier; it’s usually full of interesting things I’m going to look at ‘later’ — which I sometimes do, and sometimes don’t. But occasionally out of this pile pops something I feel inspired to pass on. Here the question:

“What one thing could you do that you’re not doing now in your life, that if you did on a regular basis would make a tremendous positive difference to your life?”

It makes you stop and think, doesn’t it?

Which of course it’s intended to do. My answer today was — have a lying down rest every day of at least 20 minutes. (Yes [read more]

7 Everyday RichThinking Actions

1. Begin your day by focusing on what you do want, not what you don’t want. Look forward to the things you have in your schedule and determine that you are going to find the riches in all of these situations. This only takes a few minutes and sets the context for your day.

2. Sing a Success Song to yourself while you’re having a shower or getting dressed. Even if you don’t feel very successful first thing in the morning, by directing your energy this way, you’re doing the same as the first point, and setting your tone for the day.
