I saw an article entitled ‘Businesses Up Close’ in a local magazine recently; I thought the questions asked were great, and that you could benefit from them too. I’ve adapted them a bit, added a couple of my own, but all of these are crucial questions to be able to answer from your heart and soul, and then communicate easily. If you find yourself challenged by any of them, take some time to reflect; this is a great opportunity to allow clarity to come forth.
Imagine you are being interviewed by the editor of a prestigious journal for an article. It will go out in print, online and via their Facebook page, to many hundreds of thousands of subscribers. You’re in the drawing room of a smart hotel; the journalist is recording what you say; you’ve put on clothes for this occasion in which you feel really comfortable, successful, and confident. The journalist has been friendly and helped you feel at ease. Really feel into this situation — you know you’re going to get great exposure to just the people you most want to connect with. What would you answer to these questions? Feel free to post your answers below — it would be great to hear what’s going on out there..
1. Describe your business in one sentence.
2. What do you most enjoy about your business?
3. Who is your target market?
4. What is your unique selling point?
5. How do you gain most of your business?
6. Who are you most influenced by and why?
7. What is your vision for the future?
8. Outside of your business, what are the most important aspects of your life?
9. What do you do to unwind?
10. Describe what underpins the success of your business.

Thanks Jane for an opportunity to ask these questions of myself!
1. Describe your business in one sentence. I treat people old injuries so that they can move freely again.
2. What do you most enjoy about your business? The joy that patients feel when they can do things again that they never thought they would.
3. Who is your target market? Sports people and those who have injured themselves many years ago.
4. What is your unique selling point? I have mastered the ability to treat injuries effectively, I worked out that they need increased blood flow and removal of damaged tissue, and I worked out ways to do this.
5. How do you gain most of your business? Word of mouth mainly, also through my leaflets and website.
6. Who are you most influenced by and why? People who blaze a trail, follow their heart and keep their integrity.
7. What is your vision for the future? I have two plans: one is to spread the word about what the body needs to heal, by publicising the Oxford Method for Clinical Injury Treatment, and training others in it. The other, (in embryonic form at the moment) is to use my previous experience in Rebirthing Breathwork and leading groups to offer programmes to individuals with ambitions to make them a physical reality.
8. Outside of your business, what are the most important aspects of your life? My relationship with my family, motorcycling and cycling.
9. What do you do to unwind? Breathwork, hot baths, spend time with my children and friends.
10. Describe what underpins the success of your business. My enthusiasm, integrity, my patients/clients’ success.
I think I need to make an appointment for treatment with Catherine. She’s certainly sold herself to me with those responses!!
Yep me too! Cathrine what’s your website? I was just speaking to a friend today about an injury she has and what she could do about it. Is Cathrine based in Ireland?
Anyway Jane, once again a great topic which gave me loads to think about. And I do think that by answering the questions I can put together a great selling strategy for my business. I’m on maternity leave at the moment, so as well as focusing on my new baby, I’m working on a new business strategy for when I do get back to work. This has all been really useful.
Thanks again Jane
Best wishes
Aisling
Delighted to be of service, Aisling. Sadly Catherine is not in Ireland — if you google Oxford Pain Clinic, you will find her. I think she works in Germany and England.
I wonder would your change of plans for the future in rich thinkers involve a network of rich thinkers who could help and support each other, sort of like LINKEDIN but with spirit!? x
Good idea — I’ll keep you posted
