Setting the tone of your meeting

posted in Jane's Blog

Yesterday I met with my colleagues Mark and Stacie to focus on what Stacie, who has just joined us, is going to be doing. We arranged to meet in the Blue Angel cafe in the Findhorn Foundation, bagged a corner table, and just before I launched into the agenda, I stopped.

Stopped and was silent. Silent simply to pause and take a breath, and acknowledge that this was the first meeting of what I hope will be many. I wanted to acknowledge the presence of the RichThinkers Angel, and to create a ‘sacred holding space’ for our meeting to take place. In the Foundation, they call this attunement.

This way of beginning meetings is very common up here; it can [read more]

NOTES & INSPIRED ACTIONS

Useful quotes

All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him. Buddha

Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve. From Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

It doesn’t matter how long we’ve had a negative pattern, or an illness, or a poor relationship or lack of finances, or self-hatred. We can begin to make a shift today – your problem no longer needs to be the truth for you. Remember you are the only [read more]

How to Know What You Really Want in Your Business

My new client was pouring her heart out to me. Her eyes were shining as she described how she had achieved the goal she had set herself. “I wanted ten more client hours in my week, consistently filled, and look, here’s my appointment book!” She showed me a week in her diary, with all her appointments slots filled.

But then she slumped back in her chair. Her energy suddenly changed, and there was a silence. I waited. “The only problem is I feel a bit down about it, and I can’t understand it. I’ve got what I said I wanted, the money is flowing in, my time is booked up for the next month or so, so why do I [read more]

Success, Malcolm Gladwell and being an Outlier

posted in Heart of RichThinking, Jane's Blog

In Malcolm Gladwell’s new book ‘Outliers’, about the story of success, he writes:

“Success is a function of persistence and doggedness and the willingness to work hard for twenty two minutes to make sense of something that most people would give up on after thirty seconds.”

What’s all this about twenty two seconds? He tells a story about a young Maths student trying to work out an algebra problem. Where most students would spend anything from thirty seconds to five minutes trying to solve a problem, this young woman spends twenty two minutes before she solves the problem. The others, taking less time, give up.

This reminds me of my approach to doing crosswords, versus my husband’s. He will spend [read more]

Discover why your ideal client can be your lifesaver

posted in Articles, Jane's Blog

Why do you need ideal clients? Why won’t just anyone do? Surely your service or product is so brilliant that everyone could benefit from using it? It might seem that way in theory, but in practice, knowing who your ideal client or customer is, and focusing your work towards that person, is one of the most easily identifiable ways of growing your business.

I was speaking to a colleague of mine the other day about a conference he was organising for a company. He was frustrated because they were stubbornly resisting his advice.

“I ask them who this conference is for, and they say everyone!’ he sounded really fed up. It was a conference about global warming, so in a [read more]
