Trusting your business decisions

Have you got a trust wound?

By this I mean do you find it difficult to trust yourself? You might say no, of course I can trust myself, but take a moment to ask yourself the following:

  • Do you worry about what other people think?
  • Do you tend to think that others’ know better than you do, or know more?
  • Do you procrastinate, concerned about whether you will be making a mistake or not?
  • Can you make decisions about what you want to do with your business easily and quickly?
  • Are you willing to back the decisions you do make, and take responsibility for their consequences?

If you answered ‘Yes’ to the first three, or ‘No’ to the last two then you have a trust wound. It might only be a little one, that needs a bit of cleaning up and an elastoplast put on to help the healing. Or it might be a great big gash, which needs completely sterilising, bandaging and a lot of attention for it to heal well.

I discovered my depth of my own trust wound when I realised I was incapable (apparently) of making a decision about whether or not to use a different shopping cart for this website. It was so challenging, it was funny! I mean, did it really matter that much whether we used one or another? No! But you’d have thought choosing the wrong one was going to be the end of the world. And all because I hadn’t been willing to simply take a moment to sink down into the knowing in my own body, and trust what I was being told there. (And that’s part of the healing journey by the way, just practicing that).

If you find yourself tending towards believing others’ ideas more than your own, then just check in. Is it because your trust wound is seeping and needs some attention (such as reminding yourself you are trustworthy, and you can trust your own inner knowing)? Or is it because someone else has an idea that you resonate with and can follow? By checking in, you’re in the process of building your self-trust muscle back up again. Try it and see, next time you notice you ‘can’t’ make a decision, or think someone else is better than you are.
