How do you start Monday mornings?

in Jane's Blog

Nothing like starting a Monday morning, the beginning of the week, with a rich thinking action. You might think that would be making a prioritisation list and carrying it out; or taking some specific marketing action; or even seeing a client at 9am. But I go to a Pilates class. At 9.15am on a Monday morning! It took me quite a while to let myself do this, as it was against my Scottish Protestant work ethic which says quite categorically that Monday mornings are for hard work and nothing else.

But I wanted to change that, and especially after I’d heard Robert Holden, founder of the Happiness Project, say a few years ago that he had challenged himself in this very way by going out onto the golf course on a Monday morning.

The first couple of times I went to the class (which means I start my week at approximately 10.30am instead of 9.30am, only an hour later!), I felt mildly guilty! But now I’ve got used to it, and find that it is a great affirmation for my week, that I start it by taking care of my physical health. If you have the same reaction to Monday mornings as I did, try taking the rich thinking action of doing something not associated with your business, and see what happens!
