How to manage in troubled times part 2

in Heart of RichThinking, Jane's Blog

Well I have really set myself up for this interview tonight! (View the previous blog on the details, as there is still time to listen in for for free).

Am I an expert in thinking richly? Yes! And how I’ve got to that place is by also being an expert in thinking poorly! Yes, last night I had an attack of poor thoughts, so I really got the chance to put into practice what I will be speaking about on the interview tonight. Nothing like walking your talk…

One of the things I was practicing was an idea from the book Ask and It Is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks, where you practice holding a thought you actively want to think about for 17 seconds, as opposed to your mind just wandering all over the place. (If you don’t believe your mind wanders, try writing the contents of your mind for 5 minutes, and you’ll see what I mean). This is because when you can continue to direct your mind in such a manner, you begin to experience being the one in charge of what your mind is thinking, rather than the other way round.

I’ve been practicing this for some time now, and it is definitely easier said than done. If you’ve never done this kind of exercise before, try first of all remembering an image of a time when you felt really good, and things were going well for you. Once you’ve got that image, try holding it in your mind for 17 seconds. Or at least 17 seconds. It is challenging to put it mildly!

This morning I was doing this again with the thought ‘I am bigger than this’ as I was walking through the woods — I had got so fed up with my ‘small mind’ tempting me down the path of doubts and fears again, that I just shouted it out loud and then kept on muttering it to myself for the last minute or so of walking home. I began of course to feel better. Which is what this is all about — when you begin to feel free of negative emotions, you can think straight, you get to feel better, you remember why you are doing what you are doing, and you find yourself able to appreciate what you have got, not what you haven’t got.

Remember I’m talking about this in more detail on the interview tonight (and next Thursday too if you can’t make this week) so sign up now by emailing sheela@sheelamasand.com and she’ll send you the call in details.
