Becoming a salesperson

in Jane's Blog, Uncategorised

I was invited to say something at the end of the film The Turning Point last night to encourage people to buy it. (See my post under Heart of RichThinking). It had inspired me so much that I was really happy to do this, as I want to see this film affecting hundreds of thousands of people, much in the same way that I want to see people becoming RichThinkers too.

Anyway, I stood up. I’d thought of how people could use this film, and I talked passionately just for a couple of minutes about how I’d found it, that I’d ordered ten copies for Christmas presents, and that the audience could too — or use them as gifts throughout the year instead of the normal bottles of wine. It felt great supporting my friends and helping to promote the film.

The reason I’m blogging about this now is that afterwards three different people came up to me and complimented me on, of all things, my selling abilities! This about a person who has always considered herself no good at selling! Afterwards though, I thought about it, and it was clear to me that I had applied the things I had learnt in Toastmasters about public speaking; and also what I had learnt in marketing about meeting people’s needs and solving their problems. And that’s what I focused on in that mini-speech. It was a great confidence booster!
