On last week’s coaching circle, we were talking about systems, what they are, what they look like, how to put them into place, and the importance of having them in your business for it to run smoothly and easily. I invited everyone to think of one step they could take during the week towards improving their existing systems, or setting a new system up. I joined in too, and then emailed everyone letting them know what it was I was going to do.
What that task was was using the PlaceMat process every day to prioritise my work. (See article at www.richthinkers.co.uk for info about this).
So this morning, Saturday, not when I would usually work, but I thought I’m going to do this process as there are some work things I want to get done today (a blog was one of them!). Now, if I hadn’t committed to my coaching circle that I was going to do this process every day, then I doubt I would have done it. It was the accountability to others in the group, and to doing what I said I was going to do, and having that witnessed, that helped me to go to my desk, and take the couple of minutes necessary to write down a few things, including things not to do with work, like sew the jacket that I want to wear to a wedding ceremony tomorrow.
This is how the support of coaching circles works — doing things becomes more fun as you have others involved — and it gets you to do them more often than not!
So, as I’m sharing this about systems — what systems do you have that make your business run smoothly (or what don’t you have) and what could you do to make them even easier to run? Who could you have witness the thing you say you are going to do?
