It’s never too late for your dream to come true
Everyone has dreams, but most people don’t follow them, let alone achieve them. Usually, all sorts of excuses are readily available for why the dreams don’t happen ‘Not the right time’, or ‘I’m too old’, or ‘The opportunity passed me by’. But that’s all these are, excuses. If you have a dream, and you want it badly enough, you find a way of making it happen.
My friend is a case in point. Aged 65 and faced with the possibility of retiring, he allowed himself to remember a teenage dream. That’s a long time ago! What he’d wanted then was to live in France on a smallholding, and make a living from the land. Finally, he realised it was now or never.
When I first heard this, that he was going to leave community life and take a 2 week trip to France to find and buy not only a (cheap) house with a bit of land, but also with river frontage, there was a bit of me that thought he was a bit mad. I mean, I’m all for people following their dreams but it’s not that often that someone just visits another country, buys and house and moves just like that.
But — that’s what’s happened. He did take a 2 week trip; got very frustrated with not finding anything; and eventually went off with an agent who normally only deals in the more expensive end of the market, but had one property that he almost didn’t show my friend. Long story short, this house and piece of land was exactly what he wanted, even down to the river frontage, and the bonus of fruit trees. He’s about to leave to live his dream next month. Moral of the story: get clear about what you want, be open to it happening, and never mind how old you are! (in other words, don’t pay attention to any of your excuses…)
