A way to change unwanted feelings
Just a couple of hours ago, I was sitting in my consulting room hearing a client speaking about what they did when they weren’t feeling too good, and they wanted to change that. I liked what he said so much, I asked him could I put it on my blog. Here it is:
“First you have to notice how you’re feeling; then, assuming it’s something you don’t like very much, I say to myself the following:
Breathing in, I’m aware I’m worrying. Breathing out, I’m aware I’m worrying
Breathing in, I’m aware worry is unpleasant. Breathing out, I’m aware worry is unpleasant.
Breathing in, I’m aware it doesn’t last. Breathing out, I’m aware it doesn’t last.’
What I really loved about this is that firstly it interrupts what is going on, so you become in charge of your thoughts rather than them in charge of you. Secondly, if there is one thing that is guaranteed about feelings, no matter what they are, they will change! That knowledge in itself can bring freedom.
May you enjoy your breathing in and breathing out!
