Creating what you want: a secret from Krishnamurti

in Heart of RichThinking, Inspirational Quotes

We have a friend visiting us at the moment, and last night round the dinner table we were talking about creating what you wanted in life. He came out with this great quote from Krishnamurti:

“If you want to know my secret, it’s that I don’t mind what happens”.

And that is indeed the secret.

A client was talking to me the other day about how she had looked one day at her fruit bowl, thinking she must get a new one. The next day, a new one presented itself to her. Easy to create when you ‘don’t mind what happens’ — she was not that bothered one way or another about the fruit bowl, and so there it was. It’s more challenging when you really care about getting what you say you want; then it’s important to bring yourself back to a state of detachment, as all the great spiritual masters advocate. I still have to master this one, by the way!

But to come back to ‘I don’t mind what happens’ — it’s obvious then that anything that occurs is OK, and equanimity can be present all the time. So I’m taking this thought into my day today, and will see what happens.

“There are three monks, who had been sitting in deep meditation for many years amidst the Himalayan snow peaks, never speaking a word, in utter silence. One morning, one of the three suddenly speaks up and says, ‘What a lovely morning this is.’ And he falls silent again. Five years of silence pass, when all at once the second monk speaks up and says, ‘But we could do with some rain.’ There is silence among them for another five years, when suddenly the third monk says, ‘Why can’t you two stop chattering?”
