a) How To Think Rich in Daily Life
Well, although I started the last issue with this topic, I’m saying it again — there has never been a time when thinking rich is so needed by so many people. So what is it in reality? How do you really think rich?
Basically, it’s a commitment you make. You decide that you are going to choose your thoughts about any situation you find yourself in; so instead of choosing to think poorly, you think richly.
Here’s an example:
I was out shopping in Inverness just recently (an unusual occurrence, shopping is not my favourite pastime!). Things were not going the way I wanted them to — I felt bored by what I was seeing, nothing I really wanted to buy, the item that I’d particularly come for wasn’t available.
So I dropped into Waterstones bookstore to find a book I could look at while having a coffee. At this stage, I still felt disgruntled and a bit crabby. It was only when I was looking at the books that I noticed I was feeling this way.
Now, I’ve had so much practice in knowing what being crabby feels like, and so much practice in also knowing what it feels like to be contented, in touch with myself and enjoying life, that I can much more easily spot what is really going on than I used to, so it was relatively simple to make a decision to change when I found I’d fallen into the crabby hole again.
The trick, of course, is to notice you’ve fallen in the first place! But once you’ve done that, then you choose to think richly. There are all sorts of techniques you can use to change your thoughts: here’s the one I used that day:
I closed my eyes and imagined myself standing on the left hand side of a wall. This was the crabby side. In my mind’s eye, I flipped myself over the wall, doing a somersault in mid-air so that not only was I on the other side of the wall, but I was looking the other way too.
This side of the wall is called hope — and when I opened my eyes, I saw an interesting book, a lovely cup of hot steaming coffee, and a comfortable chair to sit in. I focused on having plenty of time to enjoy my coffee and look at the book, and my mood was changed. Voila!
I’m sure I’ll write again about this topic, as it’s so crucial, but for now, if you want to know more about how to think rich, check out my e-study manual by clicking here
