Changing from poor thinking to rich
At last, I am feeling better, better enough to post here. I’ve been lost in the Land of the Black Hole, where there is no air, no space, no light. No perspective, no love, no connection with anyone or anything else. Along with all this goes fear.
So how did I get out of it? First, I had to acknowledge I was in it. That happened last night. Then, getting out of the hole. Over the years I’ve gathered around me a number of different methods to help me get out of these holes; last night (well, 4.00am to be precise), I threw the I Ching. The words I received with this divination tool were like a blast of fresh air which swooped down into the hole, and out again, bearing me on its breath. And then I could breathe again myself. Aaaah.
I reconnected to thinking rich (which only a moment previously had been like some unintelligible computer language); I reconnected to forgiving myself (where a moment ago I’d been berating myself for being negative); and I reconnected to a power greater than myself (where only a moment ago I had been completely convinced I was alone in this world).
So when fear takes over, and you finally notice you’re in it, the RichThinking action is to be willing to grasp a lifeline through a conversation, a book, a phone call, an inspirational message, a walk in nature, a turning of the head the other way, to look through different eyes at the same scene and see before you something you’d missed only a moment before.
You see, being a RichThinker can often also mean being a poor thinker. The real challenge is simply getting yourself out of the poor thinking Black Hole as fast as possible.
Often people have asked me how I manage to be so positive; I reply that I choose to focus more often than not on viewing things positively, and I do that because while I may be an expert in thinking positively, or richly — I am also an expert on thinking negatively, or poorly.
So RichThinking is really all about noticing where you are, choosing to change it if the place you’re in doesn’t serve you, and taking actions to support that choice. Consistently. And then forgiving yourself when you don’t.
