Being entrepreneurial

posted in Business Basics, Heart of RichThinking, Jane's Blog

Well here I am sitting on my balcony looking out over the stunning turquoise Mediterranean sea. Yes, I’m trying out working from a hot country! Well, relatively hot – we’re on the south coast of Spain, and although there’s a cool wind, when you’re in the sun it’s hot! Very different from a cold winter in the North of Scotland. So a holiday-cum-working. Only been here one day, and I promised myself I’d do nothing today, but in a conversation I’ve just had with Philip, my husband, I just had to blog about it.

‘You know that meeting we had with Collin before we left?’ I said.

‘There were two things in it that really stood out for me’.

“What were they then?’ asked Philip.

‘Well, firstly I was inspired by the story (more...)

How to give acceptable criticism

posted in Heart of RichThinking, Inspirational Quotes, Jane's Blog

I was sitting in a cafe in Belfast, Northern Ireland, this morning, with my Mum, reading the quotes painted on the wall in front of me while she paid for our coffees.

One of them stood out:

‘Sandwich every bit of criticism between two layers of praise’.

This reminds me of the advice given in our Toastmaster meeting (Toastmasters is the international organisation for those wishing to improve their public speaking and leadership skills). There they say ‘Commend, recommend, commend’. It’s the same thing, and with the practice I’ve been having in Toastmaster, it now comes easily.

And it’s a RichThinking way of doing it too. It’s much easier for people to hear some critical feedback if it is surrounded by pointing out what is great. It’s much easier for ME (more...)

350.org

350.org.

Have you heard of it? I hadn’t.

Last night I was sitting in the Universal Hall in the Findhorn Foundation listening to a presentation about global warming. What’s this got to do with Rich Thinking, I hear you ask? Well, I’ve posted here before about global warming and the world financial difficulties being fantastic opportunities to put thinking richly into practice. But boy, is it challenging! So anything that makes it easier is something I’m interested in.

I nearly didn’t go to this meeting, knowing how easy it is for me to slip into the black hole around this topic. But I left feeling heartened and inspired, and one of the things that was inspiring was this idea of 350.

I won’t tell you what it’s about here — just to say (more...)

Goals: creating what you want more of

posted in Heart of RichThinking, Jane's Blog

So why have I been unable to specify my goal for this year yet?

I’ve determined the amount of sales revenue I want — but I’m not getting excited about it, and therefore haven’t even begun to create my Alive Story (as written about in How To Be A RichThinker). So what’s going on?

Well, here’s where I am so far. I realised today while out walking that if I achieved this goal but didn’t have peace of mind, then I’d simply have fallen into the trap (again!) of thinking that achieving my goal was going to ‘make everything all right’. (When in fact everything is all right already, if I choose to believe it).

So there I was, walking along, realising this, and thinking that if (more...)

Goals and intentions

posted in Heart of RichThinking

I met a friend the other day in a coffee shop. We got to talking about goals, and she started to tell me about not having goals anymore, rather having intentions. So what’s the difference?

Well, I think a goal is a pinpointed intention, that leaves little room for manoeuvre — you either reach your goal or you don’t. An intention has much more space around it; and of course therefore it can be harder to identify whether you’ve achieved it or not.

For me though, I realised that it’s important to have both; in fact, a goal within an intention. So my goal maybe to reach a certain amount of revenue this year; but my intention would be to do this in a way that brings (more...)
