Thinking yourself rich and slim!

in Heart of RichThinking, Jane's Blog

I was walking back home through the trees and across the park, my mind meandering as it does sometimes.

Suddenly I realised I was thinking about losing a bit of weight, and remembered that in the hypnotherapy CD I’d been listening to, I’d been imagining myself in a particular pair of trousers I can fit into when I’ve lost a few pounds. I brought to mind that image, and realised I needed to get used to it in my mind’s eye first before it could happen in physical reality.

Ding! Yes — even though I’ve known this kind of thing intellectually for ages, it was one of those moments when you reach a different level of understanding.

Then I thought ‘I need to become comfortable in my own mind with the image of what I say I want in the future, as if it already is happening now’. Without that, there is no basis for creating a different future in physical reality.

And the same applies to money — that’s why most people find themselves comfortable with whatever it is they are earning, because usually it has happened in incremental stages over a longish period of time. So they don’t even notice they’re expanding their mindset, it just happens.

Now I’m sure this isn’t true for everyone — some people can indeed manage very well with large sums suddenly coming to them; but it’s well-known that many lottery winners for instance conveniently manage to spend their win until they’re back to where they started, albeit with more ‘stuff’ or more holidays under their belt.

So, the moral of this tale is — determine in your mind’s eye exactly what it is you say you want in the future, and get used to it in that ‘safety’ zone. Then you’ll be free to watch it happen in your actual life.

Now of course I have to actually apply this theory to my body weight! No use having insights without taking action; it reminds me of the old thing in psychotherapy where it’s all very well understanding yourself better, but so what if nothing much changes? And that is possible! So it’s the taking action (in this case in the mind’s eye) that really matters. Here I go:

“I see a picture of myself wearing my green cords; they fit beautifully and I feel great in them. I feel my strong, healthy and fit body easily bending and stretching, and I notice the pleasure I find in moving around freely. My T-shirt is just reaching the top of my trousers; I look in the mirror and see a curvy and in-proportion figure staring back at me. Wow! I feel great.”

Mmm — nice way to start my day!
