Learning from dogs

in Jane's Blog

Just looked at what I wrote in the last post — I was going to leave behind grey, wet and windy weather when doing my workshop in Greece…

Ha!

Actually the weather was better here in the north of Scotland! I’ve never known Greece like it — it may not have been windy but it was certainly grey and wet. Ah well. However — the workshop was fantastic, went really well, lots of good feedback and I really enjoyed myself.

This morning though, out walking, a dog bounced up to me. It was a Golden Retriever, and looked so happy I started musing about what it would be like to be a dog. They seem to me to have life sorted — so long as they’ve got their basic needs met, they meet life with a joyousness that is rarely seen in humans. Perhaps we can learn from them…

they go for what they want (the scent); they follow it to its conclusion; then they go after another scent. When they’re tired they lie down and rest. They’re always giving affection and are pretty good at receiving it too.

I don’t have a dog, but those of you who do will perhaps recognise this. My task, today anyway, is to think more like a dog. Keep my thoughts on the scent and have a good time doing it — with lots of wagging of tail (ie smiling)
