Business growth through singing?

‘Going singing instead of to a marketing meeting?’

‘Are you crazy? ’ A little voice in my head said. From the outside, attending a live singing event last night instead of driving to Inverness to a marketing network meeting definitely did NOT seem the right thing to do in terms of growing my business.

But as soon as I’d been singing for ten minutes, I knew I’d made the right decision. My heart soared, I felt immensely grateful I’d chosen to sing, and I knew all over again why I’m alive and what is my purpose on this earth. Wow! How’s that for the result of a decision!

Anyway — the reasoning behind this is applicable in any situation. I’d marked in my diary this marketing event, and it was important because I knew there would be people there who’d be good for me to connect with. And who knows? I may never meet them now. But when I heard that Barbara Swetina from the Findhorn Foundation was putting on an impromptu singing evening just before she left for two months travelling, the importance of the marketing meeting just fell away. I didn’t know for sure why, I just knew I had to go to it. Anyone who’s read this blog will know that I like to sing Taize most mornings, and that it’s a large part of my life.

So there I was, singing my heart out, connected with others doing the same, and creating an immense amount of love in the room between the thirty or so people. And I realised that without this, growing a business just wouldn’t mean anything. I have to have a context within which to have a meaningful business.

So part of being a RichThinker is getting clear about that — why I’m here, what is my purpose in life, what direction I’m going in, how I want to have that manifest in the world, and how connected I am to that at any point in time. The clearer I am, the more I and others benefit.

How’s your clarity?

Thanks Annie — it’s so true isn’t it, and easily forgotten.

Dear Jane, what a lovely reminder of singing with Barbara myself many years ago! And a reminder of how following our hearts leads to richness.
    Thank you,
    Alison
