I was aghast!

in Heart of RichThinking

Not only aghast, but speechless. Even as I write this now, I find I am still amazed…

I was chatting to my friend yesterday, when she suddenly stopped mid-conversation and shouted out “Oh! I’ve just remembered!”

This sounded like something important!
“What?”
“I met a colleague the other day, who said he was feeling a bit hard up, so I told him about the free tips on your website — but you’ll never believe what happened!”
She was so excited, I couldn’t for the life of me imagine what she was going to say next.
“I told him to go to your site where he’d find lots of useful free stuff to help him with money — and do you know what he said?”
By this time I was on the edge of my seat; I was sure she was going to say something wonderful about the site, or what had happened as a result of visiting it.
“He said, ‘I haven’t got the money to do Jane’s courses or coaching’!”
I gasped.
“Yes”, she said, “it was as if I hadn’t spoken; I couldn’t believe it. I really thought I was helping him, giving him tips for free, but he just couldn’t hear it”.
This was when I was aghast… even after all these years, I am still sometimes shocked at the power the mind has. This person simply couldn’t hear her. Why? Because nothing could get past the thought stuck in his mind that he didn’t have enough money — not even the magical word ‘free’! Even worse, he didn’t even realise he’d missed an opportunity!
My friend gave up at this point — she’d been trying to bolster him up, give him some help, but she felt dismissed by her ‘gift’ to him not being received, and by his stuckness.
The lesson here is obvious, and one for everyone, including me: observe what you ‘re saying; notice when it doesn’t support you; and change it if necessary!
